users on the web before we launched the app
Champhunt
A cricket fan platform. I was one of the first four people in, started as Head of Marketing, and the role grew into Head of Product Growth.
How it went
downloads, at under Rs 3 per download and under Rs 8 per signup
minutes of average session time, within a month of shipping
users at Rs 11 CAC, with 2,500 daily active users and 8+ minute sessions
The matchday features
A sketch of the idea, not the real app. The teams and the scores are made up.
Giving people a reason to stay
People were opening the app, but not sticking around. To change that, I planned popup quizzes and predictions that show up at key moments in a match.
Average session time went from 3 minutes to 8 within a month of deploying them. Press the button on the left and you'll see roughly how it worked: a few balls, a prediction, a few more.
My part
- Marketing first
I started as Head of Marketing and built the acquisition and marketing analytics function from scratch.
- Then features
A few months after launch, I started helping the founder shape the product's features.
- By month six
I was helping the engineering manager hire developers, running standups, owning the product roadmap, and planning new features with the founder.
- The team
Three marketing interns and two designers reported to me, and I worked closely with a development team of ten.
